Problem: to design a consumer electronics good that functions as a security system with facial recognition software
Design Solution: aesthetically driven casing design, with hardware architecture allowing facial recognition
For: Innoweekend, Northeastern’s Innovation Competition (Third Place)
What drives this design?
Functionality is given by hardware. Since this is a consumer good, design must be attractive to the target market and easy to install
What features are considered a nice design?
It should be simple, yet elegant. Ideally, the design itself would be so unique that it functions as the trademark for the product itself
Challenges & lessons learned developing this?
The challenge was limited time and resources to build a prototype
to convey the design. Through this process I learned mainly high paced project
management and how to modify design features to meet goals but not compromise the design’s purpose
